The Importance of Peptides in Eyelash Growth

The Scientific Role of Peptides in Eyelash Growth

The length, thickness and colour of eyelashes may decrease with age, which is a natural process. However, eyelash loss in particular can have a serious impact on an individual's quality of life. In recent years, peptides have become active ingredients frequently used in dermatology and cosmetics. These molecules, consisting of short amino acid chains, have been observed to have many beneficial effects on the skin and

hair. Peptides can support skin and hair health through various mechanisms, such as increasing collagen and keratin production, brightening the skin, stimulating hair growth, providing repair, exhibiting antioxidant effects, providing natural moisturisation, and reducing inflammation.

Why Do Eyelashes Get Weak?

Eyelashes and eyebrows play an important role in protecting the eye area, defining facial expressions and expressing ourselves. Eyelash loss can occur for many different reasons, and it is very important to determine the cause before starting the correct treatment.

The most common reasons that can lead to weakening of the eyelashes:

  • Blepharitis (Eyelid Inflammation)
  • Health Issues: autoimmune diseases (e.g. alopecia areata), hormonal problems (e.g. hypothyroidism), infections, changes such as menopause
  • Cosmetic Products and Makeup
  • Medications
  • Vitamin Deficiencies: biotin, zinc and iron deficiencies
  • Ageing

What Are Amino Acids and Peptides, and How Do They Work in Eyelash Serums?

Amino acids are the building blocks of peptides and proteins and have been used in cosmetics for decades. In eyelash serums, amino acids protect the hair from damaging factors by improving blood flow to the hair follicles. They also support eyelash health thanks to their moisturising and antioxidant effects.

Peptides are chains formed by at least two amino acids linked together by peptide bonds. Peptides act on the eyelashes through different mechanisms. By increasing keratin production, they support hair growth and strengthen hair resilience. They also have anti-inflammatory properties, exhibit anti-ageing effects, and provide protection against environmental factors such as UV rays. However, the most significant weakness of cosmetic peptides is their low permeability through membranes. This can prevent peptides from effectively spreading and functioning in the skin and hair. Various methods have been developed to overcome these limitations and enable more effective delivery of peptides. One such method involves chemical penetration enhancers. Compounds such as fatty acids can integrate into the upper layer of the skin and alter its properties, allowing topical peptides to penetrate the skin more effectively.

Why Are Peptides Preferred in Eyelash Serums?

The primary reason peptides are preferred in eyelash serums is their scientifically supported efficacy.

In a 12-week clinical study, 30 female participants were treated with an eyelash serum containing peptides and glycosaminoglycans. Signs of improvement were observed from the 4th week onwards, and by the end of 12 weeks, significant increases in eyelash curl, length, thickness and volume were recorded compared to baseline levels.

In another clinical trial conducted on 29 healthy women, continuous use of a serum containing multiple growth factors and Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17 for 30 to 90 nights resulted in a 50.8% improvement in eyelash curl, a 35% increase in thickness, an 11.4% increase in shine, a 10.5% increase in length, and a 9.3% increase in volume.

The Amino Acid and Peptide Approach in Dallixa®

Dallixa® Eyelash Strengthening Serum is specially formulated with a water-based, lightweight formula and rich ingredients to support, strengthen and improve eyelash health with regular use.

  • Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17: helps increase eyelash density and length by mimicking natural growth factors.
  • Hydrolysed Keratin: penetrates deeper into the hair shaft to repair and protect against environmental factors such as UV rays.

As a result, Dallixa® Eyelash Strengthening Serum comprehensively supports eyelash health with its peptides, amino acids, glycosaminoglycans, nourishing vitamins, norbimatoprost, and botanical complex.
